Forget Shop at Home

Moving to Elliot Lake ?
Forget the shop at home idea : WE HAVE NO CLOTHING STORES
Bring everything you need or shop online .
I paid a couple of Hundred Dollars to have a slow leak repaired , so I recommend you also bring a set of tires.
I need a carburator for my outboard motor, I am tired of having it sprayed with carburator cleaner , I will have to take it out of town when I go shopping.
I took my 4 wheeler for repairs when I got it back , I just gave it away, the gasoline was running in the oil pan.
I wanted to purchase everything I needed to install a water system but they did not have two inch clamps so there was no reason to complete the sale.
The Ombudsman challenged the legitamacy of meetings held by the City Of Elliot Lake ... I challenge the legitamacy of Calling this a " CITY "
A sixty kilometer speed limit combined with the proposed Nuclear waste trucks will be more than interesting for the old folks !

The NATION'S Radio Active Garbage comes FULL CIRCLE

The NWMO will be hosting two-day open houses in each of the four communities. In Elliot Lake, the two public open houses will be held on Sept. 17 and 18 in the Hampton Inn’s Maple Room. The public information sessions will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both days
Welcome to LOVE CANAL: They almost killed us with the mall and now they will proceed with nuclear waste ! Short term politicians and OPPRORTUNISTS LOOK at The immediate winfall and have no long term foresight. The answer must surely be no.
Multi-billion dollar plans for an underground nuclear waste dump is the ephitomy of greed as it will impact the future of Northern Ontario forever . Goodbye : nature trails , pristine lakes , fresh air and healthy living .
Go home seniors , miners do not belong here anymore and neither do seniors , we have a new economy . Get a grant for a geiger counter to test your radiation daily
Old people can only be in the way of the big trucks carrying the volatile Cargo...
Yes ! these statements are far out so it seems , but once a Nuclear dump is in place there will be no turning back....ever...in your lifetime or that of future generations.
MEMO: Less we forget...
admin @ NWMO Thank you for your visit to Elliot Lake , It is appreciated that you are an invited guest of the administration of The City Of Elliot Lake. As a senior citizen I must relate to you that your operation is not supported by , or compatible to the lifestyle of the present population. The economic base is mainly " Senior Citizens and Retirement Living " This was funded by the mining companies to be administered by the city. People that have been attracted here to retire , came here because it was a small town , a jewel in the wilderness , not to participate in a new diversified economy. The Elliot Lake Council is being scrutenized for placing peoples lives in arms way with the Elliot Lake Mall collapse, The Elliot Lake Council is being reprimanded by the Ombudsman for holding meetings which exclude the public. TheElliot Lake Council have much to do in camera , that does not reresent the views of the electorate , "The Residents of Elliot Lake". Elliot Lake is rich in minerals and not a location for Nuclear Waste. Why you have been invited here is likely because of the dollar signs " Billions of Dollars "I would rather have you here to come fishing. We are only eleven thousand people, take the funds down south where they will be better distributed amongst millions.

All Nuclear Wasted

It is not enough that The Nuclear Capital of the world administrators invited seniors to retire in Elliot Lake and then left Thirty Urns filled with human ashes in the malls abyss as their fait accomplis !
Now the move is on to become the nuclear waste managers for Canada and the world. I can envision it all as a few huge vehicles collide on highway 108 and then we hear them say:
"The studies and environment people said this could never happen ???We will thorougly investigate the deaths and its impact on the dimishing health of our seniors : caused by the asbestos from The Mall and the Radiation from the waste. Be Strong we will support the city and each other , as we are full of stamina and a close knit community until death do us part.

Support your local council and ask for permission to be included in gatherings so the ombudsman can be appeased

Teachers Can Learn

Last election many teachers did not pay heed and voted in McGuinty as premier of Ontario
The news is : instead of Goodbye McGuinty it is Goodbye Bargaining rights.
Elliot Lake is looking forward to a new secondary industry to blend in with Retirement Living : Nuclear Waste.
The Mall is still standing and investigations ongoing.
A few days ago The police were handcuffing a guy on highway 108 near
McDonald's and Tim Horton.
There is a rumour that Blind River and Elliot Lake will amalgamate in order to cut down on the number of Elected officials.
The NDP representatives now have a new office at the Paris Mall

ELLIOT LAKE - Ontario’s ombudsman scolds City of Elliot Lake over what defines a council meeting.
“The ombudsman stated there was no public notice of meeting , there were no members of the public present at the meeting. Therefore the meeting cannot be considered an open meeting under the Municipal Act.”
Times are changing for elected officials...it seems Accountability and transparency surfaced since The Mall Roof Collapse

The Orange Wave

It is optimistic  to look at the dark cloud through The Orange Wave but sometimes that is only the lull before the storm. People are moving about town after the Mall tragedy. The investigations are still in progress and a Thirty Million Dollar lawsuit is nothing to sneer at. Not much can be done not much can be said as the various parties investigate. Will they point the finger to the Ontario Government or to  Mike Mantha who has an NDP office in the mall ?
I think they will turn over every  stone to arrive to a conclusion...every stone exept those destroyed in the rubble of course.
Elliot Lake has to forge ahead and the sense of community just may take on a new face
The media has no say about what are Elliot Lakers true feelings , the truth is , it is a time of mourning it is a devestating time for the community. People are looking for their relatives ashes and looking for answers .The Raw News will come from the community at grass root level.
A mall collapses, rents go up, jobs are lost ...and things look promissing ???? ...IT STINKS !

Close The Road to Elliot Lake

The inquiry into the collapse of the Algo Centre Mall is expected to hold its first public event in Elliot Lake, Ont., in the middle of next month,
The aim is to give people in the town a chance to meet Commissioner Paul Belanger,
Carr-Harris   is one of three  lawyers from Ottawa appointed by Belanger as commission counsel. Peter Doody and Mark Wallace are the other two.
I would guess they will all have rooms at Lauretian Lodge which seems to be the only place that can cater to politicians, gay weddings, or government appointed investigators.
Meanwhile local people cannot get accomodations in town  for their family , for funerals or anything else.
Apparently the Hampton Inn is booked until next year. Why does 'nt McGuinty plead nolo contendre in the $30 Mllion Dollar class action suite and save everybody  the agony of meeting up with people who  only add to the financial fiasco and  will likely overlook that our lives  were being  placed in arms way by their colleagues in administrative positions .
A chance to meet Commissioner Paul Belanger is as exiting as it gets....
Do these guys still wear pin stripped suits or are they coming in tight jeans like McGuinty ?
Why not just get down to it forgo the charade and get the law suite under way !
Elliot Lake  has suffered enough , spare us the bullshit ...we have enough of the bear shit !
wrap this up ASAP and mitigate everybody's losses
When the demolition began the crowd was mezmerized by the huge crane , nearly everybody clapped ... not realizing that "The coup de grace was in the making !"
Drop 16 tons and what do you get... deaper in death !

Open Forum

It is difficult to present Elliot Lake News as I see it
and remain focused on The Elliot Lake Mall
It is almost incredible that retirement living were working on another cement block building on Hirshorn Avenue without a building permit on July 16th after all the catastrophic events.
I am not going to take the time of day to find out if it true , let the building inspector deal with it !
Notices were sent by Retirement Living that the rents are going up and this will likely affect retirees on fixed income. For those on welfare it is rumoured that some housing has been provided at The Hampton Inn and  Hopefully Tim Horton's and MacDonalds will be capable of handeling the additional traffic caused by the Mall's closure.
I can forsee an occupy Elliot Lake Group or an exodus from Elliot Lake group if changes are not implemented very soon.
I don't understand the New Elliot Lake ? The organized township was saved from becoming a ghost town for the third time ;
the population went down and now "WE HAVE A CITY ! "
The price of homes have skyrocketed and taxes have gone up and money flowed in from everywhere. The streets are bumpy and rough , falling apart , and the tennis court on Lakeview road is getting paved. The Bank of Nova Scotia was recently built and the whole parking lot is a mess...but now they are doing something.
It is not a good time to pick on Elliot Lake and point the fingers  according to McGuinty  ... I say there has never been a better time , let's get transparency and speak up before we are put in arms way again as we feed the beasts !
If you plan to visit bring your own tent, the only hotel is booked for the remainder of the year.
If you wish to be involved join the appeal for new building codes for the province of Ontario - flood their e-mails so when they return from their summer break http://ontariolegislature.com they will have something of value on their agenda

The Crystal Ball

If you notice , the roof collapse was relatively a small portion between two entry  ways.
The entrance were the red car is parked is the entrance to the motel and to the elevators .
The second entrance is the one to the escalator. My Crystal Ball told me it was not likely that the whole mall would collapse at any time as we were being told.
I think if they would have the right people to evaluate the situation mostly everything would have been salvaged by now including all the vehicles on the roof.
I am not saying the mall should have been saved , it definitely had to go .
My crystal ball tells me the equipment that came in to town today will systematically tear everything down , but before that , more than likely, reinforcement beams will be put into place and most of the stuff will be recuperated.
The demolition of the front entance removed the escalator and cleared the path to the collapsed area.
My Crystal Ball tells me the plans for The New Mall are already  designed and ready to go.
My Crystal Ball tells me it will be at the same location but extending towards The Pearson Park.
With Elliot Lake News it is important to have a Cystal Ball because otherwise all the news can be very hush ! hush !.... and confidential...and it is almost imposible to know what is going on.
It could be because I do not have a cell phone or because I do not watch television. A little birdie told me that in my case
The Crystal Ball is the best way to go !
I think The OPP are done with gathering data at The Mall Site and will release it to the
Demolition Crew

Approval was given to re-zone The Collins Hall so it can accomodate a grocery store

Raw Elliot Lake Mall News

When they built highway 546 North of Elliot Lake it was my job to assist bull dozer operators.
I had to climb under one and pull out a limb that was blocking the shifting mechanism.
we were in a marsh around Ompa Lake  and in the process , the dozer sank and pinned me down ,
sitting tight against my chest. Yes McGuinty we are in a family of thirty million and all the rhetoric in the world did not mean shit to me in that instance and I can relate to the victims in The Elliot Lake Mall.

The Lone Soldier did come to pay his respects on his own time
Otherwise all the passion and the Canadian Army help was all crap and to save face .
I was at the scene and I was thinking how miserably cold it was and how the victims every breath must have been hell.

The Rescuers Quit , aborted the operation ! They put up tents ,poles , portable toilets ,kept busy through the night, and the show went on . International Rescue was there with his equipment  and they would not let him in.
He told me all he cared about was saving a life and he was there on his own time and  as a volunteer.
I spoke to two Elliot Lake councilors , who told me that was not so , he wanted to get paid just like HUSAR .....  I will not argue... if that is the case PAY HIM !!! The other guys quit.

I did not  believe the mall was going to fall any minute and  it still standing ! I do believe the escalator was leaning , it probably was that way since they put a sign out of order. I believe the part that fell was a clean break with a few steel beams and blocks of cement hanging there .
I believe the area could have been accessed via the grocery store, via the escalator shafts, via the rear entry, via the old Shoppers Drug Mart loading doors ...
Several miners wanted to go in  and I could understand the wisdom of not opening the area to everyone , but as long as there was signs of life everything possible should have been done and the volunteers from down south should have relied on the expertise of northerners and had a rescue conference rather than a press conference.
After a long long interval the operation was re- instated but as a Demolition , and I can assure you that when a slab of cement weighing eight tons is dropped to the groud ...the bulldozer just sank another 40 feet !
I think the demolition was no longer necessary for any practical purposes.

I don't have all the facts and I don't know it all and that is why my opinion  will remain...

Tomorrows Breaking Headline News

The Province of Ontario is falling apart structurally just as it did politically.
In Quebec Montreal has had its share of problems in the past and more are to come
High rise buildings are losing  balconies and there is more to follow .
Major Toronto expressways fall on top of  Torontonians and Tourists.
Government agencies fail to confront the crisis and hire special engineering

The Elliot Lake Mall collapsed and tomorrow the garage at 1 and 3 Washigton will likely
further reduce the senior population.

Moving Sale

On July 11, Rick Bartolucci, Minister of Northern Development and Mines as well as chair of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), announced a $2-million emergency business continuity fund for Elliot Lake....ha ha...ha...

Miltown Motors  just spent $2-Million building a new garage and may just lose their shirts  because of the Mall collapse. Perhaps the Class Action Law Suite implicating the province should now escalate to $32- Million

Rather than funding Gay Pride Parades with Tax payers money the province should hand it back to Ontarians in dire need - such as the residents of Elliot Lake who lost their jobs and will likely lose everything they have as the city sinks. A hand shake from a McGuinty post mortem visit just does not cut it up north !

Social Media News

There was a time when Elliot Lake had two newspaper and CKNR radio which kept the residents updated on current events and the news. Since the computers evolved with Social Media ties
to Facebook and Twitter and countless other groups communications are instantaneous.
We do not have to wait for Wednesday' newspaper. News reports can come in from a multitude of sources . Search engines ,blogs and links have become a substitute for dictionaries encyclopedias.
Keep in touch with keywords : search "ELLIOT LAKE MALL" or Elliot Lake  and keep updated.

The outsiders Investigate

The outsiders are always at the core of Elliot lake strategy.
Almost Everyone associated with the Elliot Lake Retirement community administration and investigations are imported from down south.
If anyone was interested in serious investigations they would be delegating responsibility to the local people who have the ability and the knowledge to complete the tasks.
Southerners may have qualifications and political ties that are very impressive
but what do they know about the north and what conclusions will they arrive at when they finish  their investigations ?
I wonder as they enjoy their stay at Laurentian Lodge if they will discover Peter Mitchel a former partner worked on fixing the Mall's roof ?
I am sorry to hear that
Kjell E. Lundin, 68 years of age. Passed away suddenly Sunday June 10, 2012 in Kalmar, Sweden. He was the beloved husband of Ann-Marie and loving father of Malin (Greg).
Kjell and Ann-Marie spent many years in Elliot Lake. Kjell will be sadly missed by his many friends and his co-workers at Laurentian Lodge where Kjell was employed for 20 years.
We have roots and we have background , enough to bring transparancy to almost everything that ever transpired in Elliot Lake , unfortunately the Mall incident and Investigations are not
for us , it is our stage but  we are not the players...

Inside Track

The changing economy and Elliot Lake's unique community.
The Passing away of Dr. Dennis Prodan will be hard felt by many in Elliot Lake and Blind River.
He was a well renouned vetenarian and he was very active in community affairs
as a former Elliot Lake councillor . Dr. Dennis Prodan died of a heart attack at his home on Tuesday, July 17. A public wake is planned at Gentle Shepherd Church at 3 Ottawa Ave. this Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and then from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held later at Prodan’s property on Milliken Mine Road.
The vetenarians  from all different parts of Ontario met once a year at Frontier Lodge
and Dennis kept the tradition going year after year.

Elliot Lake cottage country is dwindling to nothing.
Both lodges on highway 546 are closed to local traffic  and only a few  occasional campers
find a spot to camp over on crown land  .
Laurentian Lodge seems to be taking the overflow from the lack of motel space in Elliot Lake and as long as the mall investigation goes on happy campers and investigators are likely to mingle.
Some people were at the Mississagi Provincial Park for their summer holidays , but since they found body parts and a decomposed body, the Semiwite Lake area has been declared of limits .
A reporter asked me how The Mall Collapse would affect Elliot Lake on a long term basis and here is what I see:
People are hurting jobs have been loss. This will be a problem for local garages ,stores and services .
We will not have business as usual. The new dealership on Hillside is ready to open its doors , the Canadian Tire Gas Bar was completely renovated ,  a new  Scotia Bank was  built in an adjacent  parking lot ... Will ELLIOT LAKE  keep attracting seniors, and will the new cottage lots be attractive and affordable enough to fuel the economy and keep businesses going ?...The answer is No !
Not Without a Mall and Not Without an expansion of services.
We had a difficult time getting a family doctor and there is no walk in clinic . The only emergency room is at St-Joseph's Hospital and if you are in a state of trauma this can mean your life.
Where can the city rebuild businesses ? The core parking lot has been cut up so badly there is just no parking spaces as it is for the existing businesses. Someone undermined the design of Marshall Macklin Monahan and did not do the residents or merchants  a favour.
I took in my car for a slow leak  and headlight repair and my bill was $234.46 ,( I never requested my rims to be grounded but that is how it goes). I took in my truck for a mechanical and the quote was $250.00 when I picked up the vehicle it was $450.00  Can seniors truly afford to live here and travel out of town to meet their basic needs ?
I am told that welfare is a integral part of the community and apparently the people who were being housed in the Algo Mall were given rooms in The Hampton Inn , that would certainly explain the shortage of rooms. I spoke to reporters who had to go to Blind River and Spanish to find accomodations as everything in Elliot Lake was booked to full capacity.
In conclusion I think Elliot Lake is a wonderful place , it is a beautiful area and has a lot to offer,
But first get rid of the McGuinty Government , have a complete investigation and clean up and Re-open a few mines. A new mall cannot be built on The Elliot Lake shoreline that is the Municipal Garage,
It cannot be built on the lake as you enter the city because that is for The Department of Highways.
Build it at the corner of 108 and service Blind River , Spanish, Serpent River and Spragge and this may even appeal to Wall-Mart
The inside track...We can keep the races at the airport once a year where everyone comes fully equiped and prepared ...
When our lives are placed in arms way and someone dies perhaps that is too much to set aside , too much to ignore . There are thirty urns with the ashes of Elliot Lake seniors  and there are perhaps other bodies yet to be found  in The Elliot Lake Mall Rubble . The investigation by special forces will not exclude transparency and the truth . There will be  echoes  from Elliot Lake until justice is done .
We can be the voice :
For Lucy Aylwin and   Doloris (Dumas )Perizzolo

News Update

Dr.Dennis Prodan passed away today and he will be greatly missed in Elliot Lake
His vetenary clinic was essential for the retirement community. Many seniors have pets
and they will be at a loss without his caring skills.
Dennis Prodan contributed to The council of Elliot lake and to the community and area
Elliot Lake was truly his home town.

Body parts

OPP in Elliot Lake have found a body in Semiwite Lake at the Mississagi Provincial Park.
The park is located about 22 km north of Elliot Lake.
OPP Const. Christine Ouimet said the condition of the body indicates that it has been under water for a lengthy period of time.
It's believed that the human foot found earlier this month at the park, is also part of the same victim.
Ouimet said the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit are continuing to comb Semiwite Lake today for any other evidence and the lake remains off limits to visitors.
The coroner's office will continue its investigation to determine the identity of the victim and determine whether foul play was involved.

The special OPP investigation force is in town to gather information about the mall.
Information can be submited at the OPP station in Elliot Lake
