Seniors Running short of Mall space

ELLIOT LAKE, ON - Sept.9, 2012, the East Algoma OPP received a call to go to the Hillside Drive Plaza in Elliot Lake in regards to a large group of youth fighting.

There was a verbal disagreement with someone trying to help a female on the ground , he was allegedly confronted and assaulted.

The accused is charged with the following :

Carrying concealed weapon

• Utter threat to cause death or bodily harm

• Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

• Assault

The accused remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing in Sault Ste. Marie.

Elliot Lake only has a couple of Plaza's and bars and having lost the Mall does impact the Quality of life.

We Took The Conspiracy Bait

ELLIOT LAKE - We should have done it on our own immediately ! When the Algo Centre shopping mall collapsed we had about 40 miners who are used to making difficult excavations in dark and dangerous places and they were prepared to save lives. No one anticipated that the rescue would be aborted . WHO Is The Ministry of Labour ? That has the power to sacifice lives because the structure was too dangerous. How did they know this ? They inspected it enough times to scare themselves ? The Ministry of Labour that was called several times to the mall over the past three years.In January 2012 they responded to a complaint of a leaky roof - yet no work orders were issued.In June 2011, they were called because of a leaky roof and an unsafe elevator.Over the past three years, there have been numerous complaints about leaky plumbing.Why weren’t they taken seriously ? It was too dangerous then as well. McGuinty was in Sudbury , two hours away , he came after fact three days latter and tried to play the hero. He tried to take credit for the screwed up rescue placing thirty million Ontarians in a prayer mode and extending every form of support and all the resources of Canada including the Canadian Army to fix Humty Dumpty...I mean the Elliot Lake Mall. (One soldier from Sault Ste Marie did stop by on his own time to offer condolences and and share in our grief with a contrite heart ) The greatest support McGuinty can offer to the community is a nolo contendre plea in The Thirty Million Class Action Lawsuit against the Province Of Ontario.
Then all the guilty parties can sink together with the mall as the criminal investigation resumes.
How much government money will go towards the demolition ?

When it collapsed, this same Ministry of Labour told rescuers not to go in and rescue folk - because it was too dangerous.Unbelievable!Premier Dalton McGuinty was caught flat-footed on this.He was in Sudbury Saturday when the collapse happened - but couldn’t make the short trip to Elliot Lake.Tuesday, he said going to the community would be a “distraction.” By Wednesday, he was high-tailing it up there.Funny, I can remember former Premier Mike Harris being slammed relentlessly for not going to Walkerton - and that, arguably, would have been a much greater logistical nightmare - “distraction,” if you will - since it would have required him taking water for his entire entourage.Then McGuinty actually tried to take credit for sending in the heavy equipment.The bumbling lack of leadership throughout this crisis is embarrassing.This isn’t a third world country, for goodness sake. We send rescue workers to Haiti, when we can’t even save folk in Northern Ontario?Do you think this lackadaisical, “We’ll get to them tomorrow” attitude would have prevailed if this had happened at the Eaton Centre? Are you kidding? The mayor would have called in the army.And just what does HUSAR do if it can’t go into areas that are unsafe? Surely when members of that unit volunteered for it, they understood they were taking on risky tasks.Apart from training exercises, the only rescues they’ve performed so far have been at the Sunrise Propane explosion in 2010. Are we funding them just to train - because the real rescues are too dangerous for them?And will everyone stop this hypocrisy of saying they’re “praying for the people of Elliot Lake”?When it suits McGuinty to slam faith-based anything, he does so. But he’s the first one to invoke God when he’s looking for platitudes.Finally, what’s happened to this once brave, courageous country?Have we lost our nerve? Do we leave people to die alone and in agony rather than try to save them?Has Canada become Can’t-ada?As in Happy Can’t-do Day.
